Professional Experience
CITY OF SAN DIEGO COMMISSION FOR ARTS AND CULTURE – FINANCIAL ANALYST
(1998 – 2005)
Primary responsibilities: Manage the Commission’s $10 million budget; advise the executive director on re-lated issues; conduct the contracts for services program (affecting 150+ non-profit arts and culture organiza-tions throughout the city); collaborate with other staff members in the development of grant guidelines and policies that affect the Commission’s Allocations Program and enable it to meet its established goals, conduct the annual contractor survey and make recommendations to the funding process based on evaluation and ana-lysis of survey outcomes.
Other Community Facilitations:
o Advisor to the Commission on arts education issues and liaison with the arts education community and co-founded the San Diego Arts Education Partnership a model arts in education initiative developed in collaboration with the San Diego Unified School District and the California Arts Council Arts Education Demonstration Program. (see Consulting Experience below for more in-formation)
o Founder and facilitator of San Diego’s Emerging Leaders in Arts and Culture; a professional and leadership development program for young arts administrators. This is new group forming to de-termine the needs of young artists and arts professionals in the 20-35 year age range and find ways to facilitate their role in community leadership and innovation.
o Co-developed and facilitated the Commission’s Neighborhood Arts Training Institute, a 12-week program funded by the National Endowment for the Arts to develop and train artists to work in culturally diverse and community-based settings.
SAN DIEGO DANCE INSTITUTE– EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
(1996 – 1998)
A non-profit arts education organization that taught dance to inner-city youth through in-school and after-school programs. Accomplishments: Re-established the organization in the arts and education communities following financial and programmatic downturns that threatened its future existence by creating strong artistic and educational initiatives that included teaching artist training programs for underserved communities through a partnership with the University of California, San Diego Dance Department.
PLAYWRIGHTS PROJECT - BUSINESS AND MARKETING DIRECTOR
(1992 - 1996)
A non-profit, arts education organization that nurtures writers of all ages providing (among other things) classroom writing programs for grades 3 - 12, professional productions of plays by teenage writers, and inter-generational writing partnerships with senior adults. Responsible for the organization’s financial management as well as for planning, implementing and carrying out marketing and public relations activities as they pertain to all aspects of the organization.
MALASHOCK DANCE & COMPANY - MANAGING DIRECTOR
(1991 - 1992)
A professional, nonprofit, modern dance company under the artistic direction of choreographer, John Malashock. Responsible for all financial, marketing, public relations and fundraising duties.

Preconference committee member – assisted with developing the agenda and logistics for the 2006 Arts Education Preconference.
